What birds might you see? |
Blackbird
While male blackbirds live up to their name, confusingly, females are brown often with spots and streaks on their breasts. The bright orange-yellow beak and eye-ring make adult male blackbirds one of the most striking garden birds. Blackbirds have a long tail and often hop along the ground with their tail up. They feed on berries, scraps and apples, and are often found searching for worms in your lawn. Blackbirds have an extremely complex and varied song, which they add to through mimicry, learning and inventiveness. One of the commonest UK birds, its mellow song is also a favourite, often described as the finest song of all British thrushes. The blackbird is the most common bird seen in gardens, during Big Garden Birdwatch 2008 it was seen in 87 per cent of gardens. In winter, migrant blackbirds from northern Europe join our resident birds. Copyright for bird sound belongs to Wildsounds/Sitelle Copyright for all video belongs to RSPB Film Collection.
