What birds might you see? |
Long-tailed tit
As the name suggests, this bird has a long tail, which makes it look rather like a ball on a stick! Both the male and female are black, white and pale pink, with a distinctive white crown. Mainly feeding on insects, long-tailed tits are increasingly visiting garden bird tables and nut feeders in winter, when insects are hard to find. Gregarious and noisy residents, long-tailed tits are most usually noticed in small, excitable flocks of about 20 birds. Often found in small flocks outside of the breeding season, they sometimes visit gardens, and are most likely to be found where there are trees and bushes. During the 2008 Birdwatch, long-tailed tits were seen in a fifth (20 per cent) of gardens. Copyright for bird sound belongs to Wildsounds/Sitelle |
