The graph below shows the decline of two bird species since 1985.

Despite being in the top 5 most frequently seen species in 2010, starlings and house sparrows are in fact priority species for conservation. BGBW results over the last two decades show why there is such cause for concern with many fewer of these species being seen in our gardens than during the mid 80s. The number of starlings reported in gardens in 2010 are at their lowest since 1998.  This pattern of decline is mirrored for starlings and house sparrows in other RSPB surveys.
