Aren't birds brilliant > Sites > Peregrines at Lincoln Cathedral

This season's highlights

The peregrines went all camera shy on us this year. Deciding to ignore the new nesting platform with nest camera that we had installed for them, they instead laid their eggs just next to it, causing a delay in getting live footage to the viewpoint within the Cathedral.

While we waited for a licensed expert to carefully turn the camera around to point at the new nest, visitors to the viewpoint were treated to the adult birds flying around the Cathedral grounds, as well as plenty of excellent views of them perched on the ledges of the main tower.

Once the camera was up and running we were also treated to incredible close up footage of both the parents, and their three youngsters.

It was in mid-June that the first young bird decided to take its maiden flight. Some rather awkward food passes between mum and young showed the peregrine chicks starting to hone their aeronautical skills.

Fingers crossed for a return visit from this fantastic peregrine pair next year.
