It turns out there was a brief  (4 minutes) connection problem on Thursday between the software that sends the e-mails and the database that holds them. Unfortunately the software did not notice when the connection was restored so it has not sent any since then. It is being restarted now so e-mails will start going out again within a few minutes. We are investigating why the software failed to restart.

I was getting them from some forums, but not from all forums. Now I'm not getting any.

Hi all - we've managed to resolve this one now - thanks for your confirmation it's working again Sarah Macsplash!

We've got some monitoring in place for this, so that will help us ensure a quick turnaround on fixes if there are any re-occurrences.

However, we now expect everything to operate normally from here as we're running a schedule of tasks to ensure we've eradicated it for good! So we're on this one and hope it won't bug you again from here.

That said, please use this thread to alert us if email alerts cause you any grief and we'll get right onto it.

will the alerts work while looging in through the homepage?

Hi Doggie - I'm not quite sure I understand your question. If you mean you arrive, say, on our main homepage (www.rspb.org.uk) and sign in there, then visit some forums threads and set up alerts to receive emails, will you receive email or RSS alerts? The answer to that is yes, they should work in that scenario.

In fact, if you request email or RSS notifications from threads (or blogs) on the community, you should just receive them, irrespective of where you signed in.

I hope I answered the right question there!

Yeah from rspb.org.uk all notification boxes are checked in profile but don't get alerts..

it's no problem while you got other things to deal with..

edit..for info, i get PM and answer verified notifications
