  • Forum post: Redwings and Fieldfares plus an owl

Hi everyone am new on here and i just needed to tell someone about the happenings in the tree in our drive. This morning I noticed a lot of activity and after watching a while from the bedroom window with and without bins and obviously plenty of research (looking at different bird books), found there...

...or maybe a bit of grey will be more your colour this weekend? This week, our Wildlife Enquiries team have been inundated with queries about these beautiful birds - redwings and fieldfares . So if these birds are now as familiar to you as your usual robin and blackbird, you're not alone....
  • Blog post: ‘Slim Pickins’ - 9th Feb 2012

A noticeable feature of the last two weeks has been the large flocks of Rooks and Jackdaws (up to 80), assembling on Campfield saltmarsh, around the high tide - obviously intent on the debris, both vegetable and animal, left by the recent high tides. Our local Crows, mixing amongst them, strutting...
  • Blog post: The Day of the Diggers, 3rd February 2012

Out along the boardwalk onto the Moss We had been vaguely aware for the previous week or so that there was serious digger activity out on the Moss and Dave had given us some basic information regarding this work. So, having picked our day: no wind, sunshine and some free time (you get the drift!)...

I've seen about eight or nine Redwing on the upper branches of my apple tree today. The cold weather and snow must have brought them into the garden.

Well, it would seem the birds know the weather is about to change. Yesterday & this morning has just been a huge feeding frenzy in my garden with seed & mealworms going down a treat! The blackbirds & sparrows are enjoying a nice long drink along with a lovely, if not cold shower in the...
  • Blog post: So you want wildfowl - Well come on down!

Whoopers taking off from the hide wetlands. Since Christmas here on the Solway, and by implication, our very own Campfield Marsh, the weather has been very wet and windy. But, surprisingly, in the last few days it has been calm and windless - really rather pleasant. There has been a high tide...
  • Forum post: lack of wild bird sightings

We also live facing open farmed countryside . We thought that when moving here 5 years ago the area would provide us with views of many wild birds, but this has proved to be the opposite. In the city of Nottingham the gardens have wild birds, foxes and even squirrels. Here we don't see any sparrows...
  • Forum post: Siskins in the BGBW today

Hello everyone What a fantastic afternoon I have had today compared to yesterday. Our garden has been buzzing with activity. The birds came at regular intervals to gorge on the seeds and fat balls that we had placed outside for them. Perhaps it was the cold weather that made them more hungry than...
  • Forum post: Lot less than last year!!

I have just finished my big garden bird watch for this winter and have noticed a big drop in numbers compared to last year. This time last year it was so cold I had redwings and sonthrush in my garden and had to refill the 4 fat ball holder at least once a day. Now i just have a frequent robin and a...
