  • Forum post: lack of wild bird sightings

We also live facing open farmed countryside . We thought that when moving here 5 years ago the area would provide us with views of many wild birds, but this has proved to be the opposite. In the city of Nottingham the gardens have wild birds, foxes and even squirrels. Here we don't see any sparrows...

  • Forum post: What time(s) do you see birds in your garden?

I find that most of the activity on my feeders happens between 10.30 and 12 - annoying as during the week I am at work at this time! I do sometimes see the odd blackbird or robin eating from the ground before I leave for work at 7.30/8, but not many and I never see birds on the feeders at this time....

This is the first time these guys have been this trusting; they have never fed from our hands before. They are daily visitors to the garden all year 'round.
  • Blog post: Why fat is a bird's best friend

We humans are constantly bombarded with messages that Fat Is Bad. It's less lard, more olive oil these days. And rightly so, much of the time. Now that many of us live rather sedentary lives, sitting around in heated offices and houses, fat isn't as important for us as it once was. For birds...

  • Blog post: Something for the weekend

This week, you've got to keep your eyes and ears open. Be alert at all times, wherever you are - especially if you're out shopping. Waxwings are here! Whatwings? Waxwings . They breed in Scandinavia, snapping up mosquitos in the northern forests, but in winter it's berries they crave ...
