  • Forum post: Raptors over M4 and M40

Going west from London, either M4 past Reading, or M40 near Oxford, there is plenty of raptors flying high above the motorway. Driving is not the most comfortable position for bird id I could imagine, and I am rather a bad birdwatcher, but considering rather broad and apparently fingered wings, I used...
  • Blog post: Whooping with joy!

I'm getting reports of 5 Whooper swans being seen at Wigtown Bay. I saw four Whoopers doing a flypast near NTS Threave Estate Castle Douglas this morning, and I was down at RSPB Mersehead yesterday where they had 1000 pinks arriving, 500 + Barnacle Geese and a male Goshawk, great to see! Please...
  • Blog post: Outrage over poisoning of rare birds of prey in Devon

Devon and Cornwall Police and the RSPB are appealing for information after four goshawks and one buzzard were found dead in woodland to the west of Exeter. The RSPB is offering a reward of £1000 for information leading to a conviction. The RSPB was informed of the incident by a member of the...
  • Blog post: Raptors around the Rock

There really isn't a great deal to say about our Peregrines this week, as we've hardly seen anything of them! However, I thought this would be a good opportunity to tell you a bit more about the other raptors we see up at the Symonds Yat rock. Buzzards are seen every day and they are now the...
  • Blog post: One, two, three...Four?!

Honestly, you go off for a fortnight’s holiday, in the belief that your Peregrines have three chicks and then you come back to four! Four?! How on earth did that happen? Well, many theories are circulating and I’m not going to go into them all. What we believe is the most likely cause, is...
  • Blog post: Getting carried away

Guest blogger: Laura Reynolds, South Wales Date with Nature superstar The female peregrine chick in Cardiff was taken by surprise the other day. With her juvenile feathers coming through nicely, she was having a good practice at flapping her wings when she was taken by surprise by a great gust of...

  • Forum post: Re: New forest goshawks webcam

Thanks Sue, was worried for a bit. Thought it may have fallen out or something, although I can't think of something that would raid a gos nest, apart from homo sapiens
  • Forum post: Re: Had Enough Goshawks Yet?

There's another closer to me, but on a private farm, the good thing being thought that he is aware and patrols the area, not as secure as a watched nest but I would never enter a farm after dark with outside dogs!!!! So looking at a good year, three chicks at newforest, three at cwmcarn, don't...
  • Forum post: Re: Had Enough Goshawks Yet?

Sadly the image quality is not as good on this one. The chicks appear more advanced though, you can see the size of the clown feet :)

  • Blog post: We're ready for our close up!

Here's some of the first shots of the new goshawk chicks in Cwncarn Forest that were born over the weekend. The pictures were taken on Sunday when only two of the eggs had hatched, but since then a third chick has arrived safe and sound so even more hungry mouths for mum and dad to feed!
  • Blog post: North Tynedale: Great Expectations

Well, the seasons' wheel has turned and here we are again in North Tynedale, Northumberland, still waiting and watching in eager (and, if the truth be told, nervous) anticipation for the establishment of a pair of hen harriers with procreation on their minds. A few dedicated, expert RSPB volunteers...
  • Blog post: Crash, bang, wallop

Amidst thunder storms and torrential rain, the first goshawk chick at Cwmcarn Forest hatched just after 4.30pm on Saturday. We'll keep you posted on when the other eggs hatch... The goshawks in the New Forest are also proud parents to some white balls of fluff! You can see how that family are...
  • Photo: Treacle-parkin's garden

GOSHAWK ! We only have a small urban garden with Koi pool. a few sycamores, elders and 10 foot hawthorn hedge plus a 'left alone' shrubbery containing a few tall hollies. Unbelievable competition between species for nesting space - robin, dunnock, wood pigeon, collared dove, great tit , coal...

Goshawk seen on 31 March 2009CE in back garden of our bungalow in Briar Hill, Northampton
  • Photo: 2726

Very surprised to see what I believe is a goshawk in our small garden in Briar Hill, Northampton. It visited us to "savour" the local feral pigeons which come regularly to all the gardens in our block. Photographed through a window.
