Some Of My Current Regular Garden Visitors
Ella
I haven't taken many pics in recent months of the birds that visit my garden, but have started again, and thought I'd post a few. Nothing exciting, I'm afraid. No rare species, but I'm always thrilled to see any birds coming here. They're so wonderful to watch. Sorry the pics aren't...

Magpie has feather loss around neck and head
Snowflake
I have a family of Magpies visiting my garden. Three young ones and two adults. One of the adults is looking very scruffy and has suffered feather loss around it's head and neck. The young ones seem unaffected. Can anyone advise as to what might be causing this and what I can do to help the bird...

A retrospective look at June on the reserve.

The last in a short series of diaries about birds on the reserve from Ken Croft. Hopefully, in the future we'll round of the previous month with one of his summaries..! "In a month with no real highlights here are the highlights. A Little Grebe dropped in on 30th, Grey Herons were regular...

Thanks for your comments Paul, we do like a bit of debate about identification on here so we're glad you shared this picture with us! If you reply using the 'use rich formatting option' you can insert a video clip using the fourth icon from the left. There may be other ways to do it but...

Poor Young Magpie :(
Ella
My friend and I love cats but right now we could happily strangle one of our neighbour's cats, who keeps coming into our garden to eye up all the birds who come to eat off the feeders we have out for them. We've chased him away countless times but he keeps on returning and sadly we can't...

Photos Of Some Of My Garden Visitors
Ella
I've never uploaded any photos on here before, so no idea if I'm doing this correctly! I thought I'd post a few of the (not very good) photos I've taken of some of the birds that have been visiting my garden over the past few months. Most, like the starlings, sparrows, wood pigeons, collared...

A New Bird found the RSPB Feeder Cup
Woodpecker
Hi everyone I’m using this thread partly as a test to see if the new ‘Word box’ in ‘Use rich formatting’ works as I want to find out if it’s the box itself that is breaking threads, or if people are trying to post text from Word without using the ‘Word...

Gruesome. Any ideas?
Birdie Wild
Don't read this if you're tickled stomach. Found, several days ago, on edge of up turned bin lid that lines my bird bath, two claws still tightly clutching side, each with the legs still firmly attatched, that were joined by a thin piece of skin at top of legs, these having flopped over in to...

MAGPIES

A STORY THAT NEEDS TO BE TOLD I live near Newcastle upon Tyne we are infested with Magpies. Today was the last straw when I saw out of my front window a Magpie going into the hedge and pulling out a baby chick from its nest, within a couple of minutes it returned. I then saw the mother Thrush...

25 magpies
Andy in Falkirk
Last week I saw a group of around 25 magpies in one tree on three separate mornings - at around 6.30 am on the banks the union canal in Falkirk. The were more or less peacfully roosting with no more than minor squabbling to be heard. On two mornings they were in one isolated gaot willow tree, on the...

This male magpie is currently terrorising the pigeons and doves that visit my garden. He swoop down several times a day and tries to peck at the nearest vicitim.

From John Took a quick afternoon walk down to the hide. Good numbers of Shoveller showing and a few Pintails - Wigeon are still hanging about. Loads of Teal. Dave showed up at the hide and amazingly spotted a male Wheatear in a distant ploughed field adjacent to the reserve - goodness knows how...

This is a very special friend - Mumma Maggie. She is an excellent parent, but also insists on close personal contact with us. She loves to be hand fed, and always comes down to see what we're doing if we're in the backyard. I was trying out my new camera, and she was intrigued by the zoom lens...

It's been rather a dismal week here at The Lodge , with soggy clouds overhead for too much of the time and precious little sunshine to be had. We're lucky enough to have a bird feeder outside our window here (check out the webcam during daylight hours). It gets a good range of visitors ...
