  • Blog post: Wedding Bells and Birthday Wishes!

Well as I sit here typing, the wind is howling outside and the rain is lashing against the window and it seems like the whole of the UK is getting a battering this time. Incredibly, just yesterday we were enjoying blue sky and sunshine. The car thermometer read -4C as I left home for Loch Frisa and as...
  • Blog post: Blue Skies and Old Friends

Well I am delighted to report that summer has made a comeback on Mull. Just when we thought our jumpers and coats were coming out of summer hibernation, ready for autumn and winter, the warm weather has returned. We have been enjoying cloudless blue skies and warm sunshine, sadly a bit too late for our...
  • Blog post: Reasons to be cheerful .....

(what a great song that was from Ian Dury!) I know over recent weeks, its been hard to be really cheerful with the failure of the nest at Loch Frisa but we do have lots of things to be really cheerful about. Our most exciting news is that one of the eggs on our buzzard nest has hatched! Our female...
  • Blog post: How do you like your eggs in the morning?

I like mine with a pair of eagles!! As Dave mentioned in his last blog, Skye and Frisa have decided on this year's nest and are now well into the routine of incubation. Both adults take turns in sitting on eggs, although Frisa will tend to do a bit more. It's fascinating watching their behaviour...
  • Blog post: Why do birds, suddenly appear?

(courtesy of The Carpenters, Close to you - cant stop singing it now!) Well bit of a busy week - last weekend was The Big Garden Birdwatch. Why is it that birds that come into the garden every day of the week, suddenly disappear when you need to count them? On the other hand, you can be surprised...
  • Blog post: Form an orderly "V" please!

I don't believe it! I'm sat inside typing when outside the sky is blue with a few whispy clouds - hubby is out in the garden pruning a hedge in a tee shirt - is it nearly the end of October? Walking the dog this morning, I had a lovely view of a flock of barnacle geese and a small flock of pink...
  • Photo: Glaucous Gull

This was the only Glaucous Gull on the shore at Portree Harbour, Isle of Skye with around 40 - 50 other 'gulls'. Taken in August.
  • Photo: Highland Darter

This dragonfly was taken on the Isle of Skye (Kylerhea) in August. There seems to be some debate on another site if it is a Ruddy Darter or a Highland Darter. The location seems to suggest a Highland Darter. Any confirmations please?
  • Blog post: Don't Let the Sun go down on Me!

Well, September is certainly proving to be a saviour in terms of weather. We are enjoying lots of warm sunshine and blue skies - you could almost be fooled into thinking it was May or June. Tee shirts have come out of winter storage and its lovely to feel the warmth of the sun on your face. Our family...
  • Blog post: I Wanna Hold your hand (I mean wing!) ...

Lennon and McCartney Well Skye and Frisa have certainly been spending a lot of quality time together now that Heather seems to be fending for herself quite nicely. Most days this week they have been together either sitting on the same branch or just a branch apart. On one occasion, Skye slightly...
  • Blog post: "Look Mum - I can fly!"

Sorry for the delay in news but as you may have read we have now moved over to a new blog software! Still finding my way round it so hope this works!! I am holding the fort for a few days while Dave has a well earned rest. The one piece of news I wanted to share with you is the naming of our chicks...
