Wildlife volunteers scoop top award

Visitors to Severn Trent Water's Carsington Water already knew the volunteers there were brilliant. This has now been officially recognised, as our team of volunteers were awarded this year's Derbyshire Excellence in the Community Award.

Since the project began in 2006, this team of volunteers have donated over 6,500 hours of their time, inspired and met more than 56,500 visitors, and raised £10,000 for our conservation work.

From ducks to wrens, tree sparrows to lapwings, the volunteers get visitors close to the wildlife at Carsington Water using a mixture of telescopes, CCTV, walks and talks.

The Derbyshire County Council award recognises outstanding work and extraordinary achievement by individuals, groups and communities.
