A date with nature

The latest news from our Date With Nature projects around the UK.

The hobbies have landed!

The New Forest goshawks may have flown the nest, but the fun's not over yet as we turn our attention to another New Forest bird – the hobby. Hobby flying

Hobbies fly from Africa to the UK every summer to breed, and at least 12 pairs nest in the New Forest.

The nest currently has two eggs in it, which are expected to hatch middle of July.

Get down to the New Forest Reptile Centre, near Lyndhurst, any day until 1 September, or follow the family online.

Could you somehow link this blog to the camera site for the hobby? Thanks

Hi Patricia

You can see live images from the nest on our site, or try New Forest Gateway

Hi Lucinda Guess I used the wrong word (blog). I was speaking of a comment link on the nest site like the one available with the osprey nest and camera.

Hi Patricia. We haven't got a blog or comments on the hobby nest, but you can leave comments on the New Forest Gateway page, I believe. Hope that helps.
