Glaslyn osprey diary

Follow the fortunes of a pair of ospreys breeding near Porthmadog in north Wales. More...

Seeing double!!

The Glaslyn ospreys have today revealed another egg in their nest – making it double trouble for the pair near Porthmadog.

Ospreys usually lay every other day so we had been expecting the second egg to be laid yesterday.  We can only assume that this second female osprey has been hassling our pair enough to cause the delay.

We will expect a third egg in a couple of days so watch this space!

Yaaayy!!! So pleased to hear that she has laid another egg. Was a little concerned. Is she sitting well now? Miss them so badly. Wish I was there and not in sunny Hertfordshire. Fingers crossed for 3rd egg. Love to you all. Terri and Brian

Hello Geraint, thank you for the update. In previous years the Glaslyn female has always laid her eggs with two clear days in between each one. This is actually not an uncommon trait in ospreys.

Actually, the Glaslyn female has laid eggs on every third day, for the last four years.

Thats great News! A second egg! Has the second female gone now? Thanks for keeping us informed and for everything you do down there - I am always keeping an eye on the webcam and briefly caught a glimpse of what I thought was the first egg a couple of days ago. Looking forward to visiting in May x x x

In my experience ospreys tend to lay every third day so this egg is right on time. I would expect the next egg on 12th.

Probably waiting until after Easter; in case the egg gets confused with a chocolate one!
