First Glaslyn osprey chick of 2009 hatches

Good news today - the Glaslyn osprey pair’s first chick hatched this morning (Wednesday 13 May).  The youngster was seen fully emerged when the mother moved off the eggs at around 9.11am.

The remaining two eggs continue to be incubated by the adult birds, and we hope they will hatch over the next few days, so if you’re visiting the site today you’ll be the first to see the chick. At the moment, the new arrival is completely bald, still wet and absolutely tiny, as you would expect from a chick that is just a few hours old.  Later today, we will see its eyes open properly and it will have its first feed.

We’ll keep you posted of any more developments as soon as we see them.

Congratulations Glaslyn you must be the first nest to have an osprey chick in the UK this year! I hope the weather soon improves for all the chicks and that there will be loads of fish brought in so Mum and chicks will flourish!

It seems no time at all since they all started arriving in the UK, and here we have the first chick already. It truly is a rollercoaster series of events and all too soon it will be all over again for another year, and our computers can get a bit of a rest over the winter, the housework can be done properly again before it starts all over again next year. Give me this anytime!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Geraint. Good to hear that yet another osprey chick has hatched. Quite a few hatchings from different nests now. Lets hope it will be a good year for all osprey chicks.

Fantastic news. Lets hope that they can repeat last year with 5 ospreys leaving Glaslyn. If they can it will show how good Glaslyn is for breeding grounds for the osprey
