Loch Garten osprey diary

The ospreys at Loch Garten have people across the world gripped in their tale of violence, adultery and... well... fishing.  More...

Second Chick update

As with the first chick I wanted to see the second chick being fed before reporting on its well being. Since it hatched out of its shell yesterday afternoon it has been fed three times, twice yesterday and once this morning. Both chicks are looking quite strong so we are hopeful that the problems of 2007 are not going to repeat themselves. If everything goes to plan we will be seeing the third chick sometime Wednesday afternoon/ Thursday morning, we will obviously inform you when(if) the event takes place.

There will be a more concise blog at the weekend which will summarise all of the events of the very active and exciting last ten days.

If you want to specifically help the Loch Garten Osprey Team 2008, you might consider supporting the RSPB. You can do this online via the RSPB website: http://www.rspb.org.uk/join, if you add the code PR08, your membership will be credited to the Loch Garten team.

Just switched on to see OVS bring in a fish, EJ tearing it apart and two little wobbly heads waiting to be fed - where else could you watch something like this? watching that third egg closely!

Good to see OVS is bringing plenty food for the little ones. They seem very bright and eager. All eyes on egg number 3..........

Just seen OVS flying in (15.08) and pinching what was left of the fish! Obviously thinks he deserves some too! EJ has settled down on the chicks, so hopefully they had all had enough.

Logged on at 15.10 pm, just in time to see an osprey take a fish away from EJ and fly off with it. Did anyone see? Was it OVS? She gave it up without a fight, but is calling like mad.

EJ has been food calling for some time now........hope OVS will provide something soon. I know he has been doing far better than we all thought he would, but even so......

Sadly missed both hatches, but just so pleased that the first two are here and seem to be doing ok, getting fed etc etc. Will have to try and watch more tomorrow and hope I get lucky with the 3rd egg. I did see both getting fed earlier today though, so that was good.

I switched on at 10.20pm last night and I'm sure I saw one of the chicks with it's head stuck in half an egg shell while EJ fed the other one! Was I dreaming?!?

My daughter and I (ospreywatcher) have been watching EJ and OVS for about a month now and we areloving it. The two babies are precious little birds and look ready for their other sibling to hatch. I am watching so much I can't keep up with it all.I am so dandy to see the mommy feeding her babies! Thanks for the update!

The sound is back too. Fantastic. EJ just had a stretch and a few calls and I managed to catch sight of egg no. 3 , which still looks intact. Should not be long now though I hope. I will be glued to the screen this afternoon.

13.18. Sound and vision, I've missed that chaffinch. Now we'll hear how loud EJ can be again.

14.18 Ah-h bless her, she is fast asleep. She seems so relaxed today. I think she is obviously enjoying having her little wobbly heads with her.
