Loch Garten osprey diary

The ospreys at Loch Garten have people across the world gripped in their tale of violence, adultery and... well... fishing.  More...

We have sound again

Apologies for the lack of service overnight and first thing this morning.... the system was closed down so that we could finally get to the bottom of the sound problem. Hopefully you now have sound, I know we do here on our PC.

As for the birds, a fish at 5.14 this morning... both chicks fed and OVS disappears.

A full blog will be posted at the weekend..... though I suspect we will be writing a lot earlier than that when egg 3 hatches.

Until then.....

Wow, a huge thank you to the engineers, back with sound again an absolute pleasure, now looking very much forward to hearing the chirps and sounds of the nest and Loch Garten Countryside and maybe very very soon the cracking of the third egg. Brilliant, well done and again a HUGE thank you.

Thank you so much for the sound as well. I haven't got speakers on my computer at work so can't wait to get home and listen to what is going on.

Like Sixy I don't have sound so can't wait to get home. Saw, I assume, EJ feeding the chicks this afternoon. What a fantastic sight. Hopefully I may get to enjoy a feeding session with sound tonight. Thanks LG team for this wonderful insight into their behaviour.

Oh my word! I have just witnessed my first feed!! I have enviously read other watchers' reactions and now understand completey!! It was just so fantastic to see how gently EJ fed the chicks and amazing to see just how much they needed. Great work and many thanks to all at Abernethy.

Just seen feeding time. One seemed to have more than the other but the one that had less seemed to stop asking for food so I guess it was the younger chick

.... and then over to the TV, where Simon King is at the fish farm, showing several ospreys males fishing!! Looks like a great season in Cairngorm - wonderful stuff.

Thanks technical team and 'OUR' Osprey Guardians'......sound does add to the enjoyment but nothing was missed by having the privelege of watching (and the ability to hear!!) the antics in the Osprey 'household'.......at the moment they are having dinner a HUGE fish.....'MY' (sorry folks they're mine) chicks look gorgeous and growing. I am on tenterhooks waiting for third 'baby'.....although by my 'SIGHTINGS' there should be, at the very least, 100 CHICKS...the optical illusions I get, the longer I look at the nest, there are chicks everywhere!!!!!! PS. watching and learning so much about Ospreys from Springwatch.

How sweet to see EJ struggling to stay awake and alert this morning. Just like most mothers whose children have kept them awake at night!

EJ looking very regal this morning......I think this nest looks far more comfy than the one Simon King is monitoring, amazing stuff from springwatch, don't you think? i wonder if OVS was one of the males fishing.......

I presume I have missed breakfast as EJ isn't calling.

I have been meaning to give the other members of our cast of 'players' some well deserved publicity.......so, whilst I have got time today, hopefully, before the next happy event at 'our' nest.

Abernethy Forest....red squirrels, spotted woodpeckers, chaffinch, blue tits and others eating well .......Rye Meads.....common terns look gorgeous, no chick activity yet.      Keep calm...all good things come to 'he/she' who waits!!!

Andi.K, I will not say how long I have been watching but suffice to say EJ and 'babies' must be ravenous!!

Andi, I was wondering if one of them was OVS.  Wouldn't that be wonderful if we could recognise him.  What fabulous pictures they were.  I agree EJ's nest looks more comfy but maybe not as protected from the wind.  Our little babies could be blown off.  She makes sure she snuggles right down to keep them warm.  Great mum EJ.

The third chick is definitely there. I saw it clearly a while ago when EJ flew off the nest. Great news. Congratulations to the Loch Garten team.

Dinner arrived about 12.45. All 3 fed well. No.3 fell on his back and couldn't get up again, just lay there struggling. No.1 eventually shoved over and he sat up. Don't you just love our babies!
