Hi there
I thought it would be an idea to open a thread all about Bird Poetry (hope I have put it in the right area of the forum) {wink}.
It will be a nice thread to open up our thoughts by using the spoken word.
I will start with this 'quirky' short poem about time, place and birds together.
Greylag Geese The train I'm am on speeds past .... a mob of Greylag Geese The train I'm on speeds past ... spread their wings The train I am on speeds past ... make little runs The train I'm on speeds past ... are left forever The train I'm on speeds past ... between earth and air Magi Gibson

Hi Blackbird
Lovely poem ! I thought I would include this one as it reminds me of that wonderfuldocumentary "March of the Penguins" as narrated by Morgan Freeman.
My Father's Feet
To keep myself up off the ice,I find my father's feet are nice.I snuggle in his belly fluff,And that's how I stay warm enough. But when my father takes a walk,My cozy world begins to rock.He shuffles left, I hold on tight.Oh no! He's wobbling to the right. Not left again! Oops, here he goes.Do you suppose my father knowsI'm hanging on to his warm toes?

THREE LITTLE BIRDS
beside my door step
singing sweet songs
of melodies pure and true
Saying! this our message to you oo oo
singing don't worry about a thing
cause every little thing is gonna to be alright.
Bob Marley
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
One of my favourite all time songs is 'blackbird' by Paul McCartney! Was somewhat disappointed when I learnt the true meaning behind it (even if it is a noble one!!)

Lol! I'm not much of a Beatlephile either!! I looked the song up some time ago as I really liked it and this is what I discovered (extract from Wikipedia):
"McCartney was inspired to write this while in Scotland as a reaction to racial tensions escalating in America in the spring of 1968, and (according to Sony/ATV Songs LLC 1968) McCartney stated that he had a black woman in mind when he wrote the song ('bird' being British slang for a woman)."
A very noble cause but it just tinged the innocence and simple beauty of the song for me!
thanks
Oh! - 'Blackbird' has always been one of my favourite Beatles songs, too. Thanks for info. (still like it, anyway)
Enjoyed the Bob Marley tune, H. McHale!
Off now, to find some bird poems from years ago.... will come back here with them sometime.
Thought it was a great idea to share favourite bird poems. Last year we brightened up our office with some bird images and poetry. I chose this extract from a poem by Pablo Neruda to go with an image of an albatross cruising over the southern oceans, it just seemed a perfect match. It also expresses something of what I get out of birding and going to wild places... if you want to read the whole thing it's called "The Poet Says Goodbye to the Birds", look it up on the web.
…I’ve wandered the world in search of life
bird by bird I’ve come to know the earth:discovered where fire flames aloft:
Thank you Colin. Your extract has certainly encouraged me to go and read more. Off to look it up now.
A bit of Edward Lear (an English writer of nonsense poems) :
O Brother Chicken! Sister Chick!
O gracious me, O my!
This broken Eggshell was my home!
I see it with my eye!
However did I get inside?
Or how did I get out?
And must my life be evermore,
an atmosphere of doubt?
Great poems everyone here (super}
Love them a whole lot ,and will read them over again {knowing me - Dave is no better} He loves anything to do with wildlife too
Love the ones that are quant like the baby penguin one
Adds a picture to the thoughts anyday! {thoughts}

I will source out this information about your poem, and have a good look at it.
