Hi CH.Mac welcome to the forum.
I take it by your comments you have already had a look at some of the threads, while you wait to see if anyone can help you have a look here at Flickr to see what the camera can do, it's the group for the FZ45 www.flickr.com/.../pool

Hi CH.Mac
Welcome to the forum
The fz45 has been superceded by the fz150. I have the latter and would highly recommend it. I upgraded from the fz38 in December. The reviews speak for themselves.
Rather than get rid of your DSLR kit, why not keep it for times when you don't need to carry it too far and use the Lumix for taking on walks?
Cheers, Linda.

Hi CH.Mac, there are a number of us that use the FZ45, Sparrow and I being 2 of them. Love it. Might not have the same reach as your Nikon kit but we are still able to get some really good images. Some of the advantages are lightness and not needing to carry lots of different lenses, it has an excellent macro function and you can also produce good video with it as I found out yesterday.
A few samples of photos from last week, I have reduced the size to post them here.
Paddle-borders about 1/2 mile out to sea, I was in brilliant evening sunlight, they were in sea mist.

The only problem I with it is my limitations in understanding all the functions and getting the very best out of the camera because no matter how carefully the clever people on here explain coming off A/f and onto manual my brain shrivels and goes off to a safe place.
Also have a look at FZ150

X-posted with Sparrow..forgot she had upgraded
Hi-
here's a repeat of my advice elsewhere on here. Practise by taking the same object from the same place with different cam settings / speeds / apertures etc. and compare the results on your PC later.

Hi CH
This is a thread that you started about Cameras and we have post in your thread..look on it as a conversation.
Hi any thoughts on the fz100 14.1mp 24x full HD movie £315.00??? you out there are my experts! honest regards CH you see i have been busy!!
You can get the fz150 for about £20 or £30 above that and I understand the improvement is considerable. The main thing being they reduced it to 12 mp which improves the quality.

Hi,
The fz150 is the latest version of the whole fz range. It was designed to incorporate the best aspects of the earlier FZ cameras and eliminate the worst aspects. QED it ought to be the best of the range. As I hinted previously, I suggest you google about and read all the reviews and comparisons, of which there are many. Then look on the Flickr groups at some of the photos each of them produces (with a little help from the photographer!!)
Hi
fz 150 has a far better processor than the fz 100
Hi all, i think i will buy the fz48!! my local shop(jessops) tells me it is an updated fz45, i must admit price comes in toAmazon(£252.84 inc 16gb card) free delivery! Jessops (£249.95 no card) await my experts(you) opinion!!! before i buy, what do you think???

Looks like you have already decided!
I hope you won't neglect to come back in a week or two to let everyone know how you find the Pani after being used to a DSLR.
BTW I'd be interested to hear which model and how long you have had the Nikon.
