Anyone for a cuppa? I see the tea room is now open!

Would prefer a coffee with 21 sugar.

Aaarrrgh!!! Pleeeeeze don't mention muffins... back at the end of July I was given about 5 hours notice that 72 were required - I never, ever, want to see another muffin as long as I live (WINK)

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
no muffins but I can do you a nice cappuccino with Lincolnshire plumbread! (I run a real-life tearoom!)

I've never had plumbread - I get the impression I am missing something yummy...

Never had Plum Bread then you have never lived. Get yourself to a decent baker and treat yourself (great with a nice bit of cheese). Mouth watering already.
I will do my best to locate some in what passes for bakers around here!
Here in Lincolnshire they say there are as many plumbread recipes as there are bakers! Some are yeast-based (bread-y) and some are more cake-like. Mine is based on an old family recipe and is of the cakey type. Lovely with a bit of cheese!
You could bake your own.
I can do it and I'm a bloke. I use a recipie from of Mother's she was a proper baker.
I just Googled Plumbread and found a whole stack of recipes from Winteringham Village - I'm hungry now! I originate from the west country (halfway between Bath and Bristol) and my favourite was always Lardy Cake but they can't make it properly in the bakers round here. It's way too dry and insufficient sugar topping.

The above village is not that far from myself and Cartmandua, there are lots of variants on those recipies but as Cartmandua said go for the cakey type they are not as dry
You swines, some of us are trying to lose weight! And here you all are talking about delicious cakes. Its bad enough at Top Lodge when the smell of the bacon butties and pastries wafts in from the cafe next door. Now I get it here too.
(just kidding)

Awww, poor Chris. Anyway, enough of the faux sympathy, Devon Cream Teas - that's something else I miss. Fresh melt-in-the-mouth scones, yummy jam and lashings of Devon clotted cream..... (wink)
How about some lemon meringue pie? Or some cheesecake - any variety except chocolate, or pavlova with lots of passionfruit pulp drizzled over?
Smiles, Jan.
