Hi all
I know it's not about birds but I'm hoping a fair few of you out there might be interested in the helping monitor the spread of the Horse Chestnut Leaf Miner in the UK with you mobile phones.
The University of Bristol has developed a smart phone app called “Conker Tree Science - Leaf Watch” to help biologists monitor the distribution and movements of the Horse-Chestnut Leaf Miner moth. If you have a smart phone why not have a go by downloading and using the app yourself? Just search under "conker" on both the iTunes app store and android marketplace.
The data collected will feed into a larger project being run by scientists at the University of Bristol and the University of Hull. The application is available for both the iPhone and Android platforms.
If you'd like to see some more info about the project then you can have a look at our blog:
http://naturelocator.ilrt.bris.ac.uk/
The app is supporting a longer term project called “Conker Tree Science” and you can see some info on that here.
The more information we collect the better in terms of building our knowledge about this rapidly spreading pest.
Many thanks
