Lolly I for 1 think that if the old system was still how it was used to be organised you would have been awarded a good egg for the work you are doing about the mesh fat ball issue.
But I do still think the new system doesn't work + doesn't hold the respect that it did prior to the changes.
Just had a wee look at the 'hall of fame', interesting to see the nos of replies for the old eggs compaired to the one post eggs. Really lovely to see so many of you winners are still holding the forum together!!
S I reckon that you are right in that the 'original good egg idea encouraged helpfulness + high standards in posting'.
JudiM I like the idea of a sticky, a 'Good Egg Jan '12' bar near the winners avatar would be also be nice. A most interesting post/campaign of the month could still continue - or just because it's good, why restrict to 1 a month - there might be 3 in Jan + non in Feb + March!!
'In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks' John Muir.
Excuse wobbily dyslexic spelling!
If we have to keep the scheme as it is, then I also think Judi's idea of a sticky is a good one - and Osprey's idea that more than 1 could be awarded. Lolly's mesh campaign about meshy things and TeeJay's brilliant Forum Map are two examples of good egg posts, in my opinion.
What do you think, mods?
EDIT: make that three! Doggie's excellent How to Post Photos thread also deserves an award.
Cheers, Linda.

I think (and have always thought) that the forum members should have at least some say in choosing the Good Egg recipients. For example, we could nominate people and the mods choose a winner, or we could vote a winner from a selection chosen by the mods. That they are picked by the mods with no input at all from the forumites makes the whole thing seem a bit detached from the experience of using the forums. That's not to say that any of the past winners are not fully deserving!

Oh another Good Egg discussion. At least this one can take place without someone telling us that we should not be offending in incumbent Good Egg.
The problem with Good Egg awards is that they were imposed on the membership without any proper consultation as to how the process should work. It was casually assumed that it would all work very well. Now nearly three years later it is entirely clear that, that was a misguided view.
Actually in my view one of the things that is wrong with Good Egg awards is that they are awarded every month. Having an award of twelve once a year might work better.
Having the moderaters choose Good Egg awards is most inappropiate for all sorts of reasons. If they did not understand that before they surely know it now.
About a year ago there was an attempt to take views on the Good Egg Awards. The result bore little relationship to the views given. It is noted that one of loudest voice in that thread is now anonymous.

I loved my Good egg award....it came as a surprise and brought a massive smile to my face and I wear my badge with pride.
My family even trough an impromptu little party for me and my youngest kids (aged 4 and 6) even helped to bake me an egg shaped cake.
So I say well done to the Mods and keep up the great work you do.
And for those that moan and groan I award you all the grumpy cracked egg award...LOL

Some of us requested an opt out from the Good Egg award scheme. That request was not even acknowledged.
Why would anyone want to opt out? They have the option to turn it down should one be awarded.
Sparrow Why would anyone want to opt out? They have the option to turn it down should one be awarded.
It is normal in any competition to choose whether to enter or not. Here we are all assumed to be competing whether we choose to enter or not.
I will never win the lottery as I choose not to buy any tickets.

Whenever a member of this community disagrees with the Good Egg award scheme it seems to be taken as 'bad eggness' or sour grapes against the 'winners' when it is merely someone giving an opinion.

Firstly it is not a competition and as Sparrow says no one has to accept it. Sour grapes - yes I think so . No wonder the mods gave up, you cannot please everyone and we take it or leave it simple as that
Enjoy the world around you

Agreed...it's an "Award" not a competition prize...if you don't want one then don't accept one if your ever awarded one.
I think awards are great idea in any community...they bring joy and smiles all around, I was pleased to receive one and many others where straight on the board to congratulate me which was also wonderful and I feel it brings with it a sense of deeper affection between us.
Well put Rags.
Alls well that ends well MrsT and nothing for mods to be embarrassed about forgetting as the two latest recipients were worthy winners.
