Saw this at a recent show, took me back a bit, when I used to listen to two old men sat on a bench

one said to the other, do you remember when we used to take our lass to the pictures, with half a crown

buy some ice cream & crisps, on the way home buy some fish & chip's, and still have 1 and six pence left,   half a crown is 12.5 pence in today's money.

240 pennies to the pound those days,12 pennies to the shilling. 20 shillings to the pound.

4 farthings to the penny,2 halfpennies to the penny, threepenny bits,sixpences or a tanner, shillings or a bob, a florin or 2 bob bit. half crowns wich were called half dollars cos thats what the value was, 10 shilling and pound notes.

went tatie picking for 10 shilling a day and it was donkey work,

Milk , Coal , fruit and veg : all delivered by horse and cart when I was a lad.

When did they change the money ?nobody told me,no wonder I get funny looks when I hand my money over in the local pub !!

I remember when the tax discs were the same colour as Guinness bottle labels and one or two folk used them in their windscreen.

A tanner, a thruppenny bit, three ha'pence - those were the days.  If someone gave you a shilling as treat, that was good, if they gave you half a crown, that was fantastic!

Blimey - when that disc ran out I was a very large bump!  I progressed to full babyhood two and a half months later.

It was the month I got married the first time

And I was a carefree student working in the Bookies during the summer holidays!
