Hey everyone! It just occured to me I haven't said hello yet, bad me, anyway!I'm Olivia, I'm 19 and from Gloucestershire and I love garden birds! I always get excited when we're getting the food out for winter, almost every year we seem to get a couple of new birds to the garden, this year so far we have had new visitors of 3 or so red poles, we think we have had a brambling and possibly a reed bunting(last to I'm not sure on as I haven't seen them, but I think we have had a brambling) and earlier this year before we had the food out, early autumn I do believe I saw my first bullfinch. I was surprised when I saw my first goldfinch a few years ago, but now we have much more than 20 individuals, possibly even over 30! they seem to have taken over from our blue tits which is slightly concerning as we went from roughly 15 to about 3 or 4 of them.I'm also very much into creepy crawlies and our larger wildlife, living in the countryside has given me some great opportunities to catch glimpses of Gloucestershires illusive mammalian wildlife, or at least it seems illusive to me by comparison to other counties. But, insects is something there is no shortage of so I have always had an interest in them, this year I saw my first dor beetle.Once I am through my A levels I hope to do ecology in university, something I would really love to talk to an actual ecologist to get a good view on what the career is like and what it really involves.I'm also a bit of an artist and photographer, (more artist than photographer!)
Also, I very happy new year to you all! What are you call going to be up to?
We are staying home, with a big cake of fire works (fairly small ones but lots of them) and we will be having a late night BBQ! Might go on a search for hedgehogs, we got two from the vale wildlife rescue center and released them into our garden last year, I think they are still roaming about which is nice!
Welcome to the forum Olivia!
It sounds like you too are addicted to birds, just like every single member on the community :D
OlivitreeI'm also a bit of an artist and photographer, (more artist than photographer!)
Feel free to share some of your photos and artworks here, and I'm sure there are some ecologists about.
Cheers Tern

Welcome, Olivitree. Looking forward to the images, art and photo. Isn't it exciting when you see your first of whatever? We had a Marsh/willow tit in our garden recently and I couldn't drag myself away from the window. Ecology and Environmental Science are really interesting options. Go for It!
