  • I live in Selsey, West Sussex and for the past two weeks or so we have been lucky enough to see numerous Redwings. We have had two or three feeding in our back garden and in the fields behind us but they are even scrapping around in the verges at the sides of the main roads. They almost seem as numerous as Blackbirds at the moment.

green fingers and muddy boots everyday!

  • We also have many redwings in gardens in West Havant

  • I live in Yate, South Gloucestershire, and whilst the snow and ice has been around we have had redwings arriving with fieldfares to feed in our garden, much to the annoyance of our resident male blackbird!

  • I'm in Nottingham.  We've had huge numbers of redwings and a few fieldfares in the last week or two.  The redwings have been conspicuous along the side of main roads where the ice and snow has been broken up or melted away, and they have been feeding on the ground under the scrubby spiky bushes that the Council tends to plant in such places.  Lovely to see them close up, because usualyl I see them half a mile away across a field!

  • Hi Im in Devon and spotted 5 or 6 Redwings today.

  • 5 or 6 here in Llantwit Fardre, South Wales ...

  • We've had quite a few distant views here in Surrey, but no close ups or garden visits so far, fingers crossed :-)

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

The number in my area hasn't been this high since I moved here in 1990. About 80 can be seen just looking out of front and back windows. Plenty more around. This area is a good ad for planting pyracantha & cotoneaster. Most gardens have all but gone, but there are still a lot of those shrubs.Rob

  • Up to a few days ago we got good numbers of Redwings on our local patch here in N.Yorks and a few Fieldfares but since this last cold spell most have seemed to move on not sure if they are looking for slightly warmer weather or their prefered has been used up.We still have plenty of Blackbirds (usually 30+ on a walk round the patch) and Mistle Thrushes feeding in the riverside bushes so they must be still finding food.

birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,just enjoy it while you can.

  • I live in Cardiff and yesterday we say a dozen or more thrush like birds which we have discovered are Redwings.  They decimated the berries on our Pyracantha which the blackbirds also like (we have about 4 regular visitors).  We've never seen these birds before in this area which is in the northern suburbs.  How exciting to see them, there are still a couple around today.
