  • Forum post: Some Of My Current Regular Garden Visitors

I haven't taken many pics in recent months of the birds that visit my garden, but have started again, and thought I'd post a few. Nothing exciting, I'm afraid. No rare species, but I'm always thrilled to see any birds coming here. They're so wonderful to watch. Sorry the pics aren't...
  • Forum post: Baby Blue Tit? (plus the odd goldfinch & greenfinch!)

Please correct me if I'm wrong but this is a baby blue tit, yes? It was on the feeders in the garden earlier today. Absolutely adorable! (Thanks to my pal Sue for taking the pics): and here is a beautiful greenfinch, making a complete pig of itself on the sunflower hearts. It was there...
  • Forum post: I wish the birds in my garden were as tame as this!

Just come back from another visit to London. Whenever I'm there I always try to make time to go to St James' Park to feed the birds and squirrels. I just love it there. The birds are unbelievably tame and come to eat from my hands! Here is a lovely great tit doing just that (my friend Sue...
  • Forum post: Photos Of Some Of My Garden Visitors

I've never uploaded any photos on here before, so no idea if I'm doing this correctly! I thought I'd post a few of the (not very good) photos I've taken of some of the birds that have been visiting my garden over the past few months. Most, like the starlings, sparrows, wood pigeons, collared...

  • Forum post: Re: At last we have Goldfinches on our feeders

Allons-y Are they more prolific in certain areas of the country? According to my bird book they're widespread apart from the the far northwest of Scotland. Don't know if they need woodland nearby. I've got some woods just up the road about 200 yards from my garden which may make a difference...
  • Forum post: Re: At last we have Goldfinches on our feeders

SurbitonLad I put nyjer seeds in an ordinary clear tubular hanging feeder, and they go down a storm, no problem with this type of feeder. OK I tried nyjer seeds. Put some out at dusk yesterday next to a very popular sunflower seed feeder in my birch tree. Shortly after 8am this morning a lone goldfinch...
  • Photo: Goldfinch Swarm during RSPB Birdwatch

Goldfinches feeding on an evergreen during the RSPB Birdwatch in a Basingstoke Hampshire garden. When they up and left there could have been anywhere between 40 and 60. By quickly quartering the group and guessing, I think there were over 50; but who knows! They have popped in for the same meal over...

hi i wonder if anyone can advise. My wife and i have always kept different bird feeders in our garden and several years ago tried to lure goldfinches by placing a nyjer feeder out, with little success at first we didn't give up and within a year started to attract a few so we continued to fed and...

Nyjer seed feeders in the garden are certainly worth the effort. On a daily basis, we are entertained by anything from one to 30 plus goldfinches at a time. Charming moments indeed.
