    My journey home

I am currently working at Halley Research Station where I have lived for over a year, and I'm about to start my journey home. I originally travelled down from Montevideo in Uruguay on a ship, via the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) and South Georgia, and am about to do travel back to the Falklands on the same ship. I'm very much looking forward to the journey, especially South Georgia.

I 'met' my first albatross at South Georgia at the end of 2004 and fell in love with them completely – such beautiful graceful birds. I'm hoping to stop off at Bird Island (another research station on South Georgia) and see nesting albatrosses.

Here at Halley I am an electronic engineer working on a radar which is used for studying the upper atmosphere. Halley is situated on a floating ice shelf, which is very flat and white, with little wildlife, apart from the odd visiting penguin. Seeing scenery and lots of wildlife for the first time in a year will be an amazing experience. I expect to spend most of my time on deck, watching the birds following the ship.
