Letter for David Cameron - handing in your support!!

Yesterday was a fantastic day for the RSPB - we celebrated the success of Letter to the Future in England by handing in 355,773 signatures to 10 Downing Street!

Here's a photo from the day of Dominik Reynolds and Charlotte Moorcroft - two children who will certainly benefit from a future richer in wildlife than it is today.

That book isn't just a list of 355,773 names - oh no - it's actually packed full of stunning images made up of all the names that signed the letter! You can see one of them below - look closely and you might be able to pick out your name!

Thank you, thank you, thank you - without you, this wouldn't have been possible!

But it doesn't stop there - yesterday also saw a special event that set out the RSPB's vision for 2020 - see how you can continue your support  by stepping up for nature http://www.rspb.org.uk/stepup2020/

You can also visit our Saving special places blog which gives a running commentary of the event yesterday.

    Future's made of virtual insanity!

Just had word from our 'stat-o-metre' that the amount of Letter to the Future signatures collected online has now reached 75,000!

    Fantastic!

This all adds up to the amazing 336,000 people who have signed the letter so far - even over Christmas and New Year, the figure just kept on rising. This just goes to show how much the natural environment means to the UK public and how we want to share these special things with our children and grandchildren.

If you haven't signed the letter, calling on the UK Government to invest in nature, please do so now - and ask your friends, family, colleagues to sign too.

    The best present ever!

Have you written your letter to Santa...oops, I mean... to the future yet?

Whether your family have been naughty or nice this year, treat them to the best gift you could ever give – a future enriched with a healthy, jolly natural environment. You can help now by signing our Letter to the Future.

Almost 335,000 people have signed the letter calling on the UK Government to invest in a healthy environment for our future generations.

With the spending review back in October giving the Higher Level Scheme (a scheme that rewards farmers for being wildlife friendly) an 83% increase, this was something to celebrate and showed just how much nature’s voice is being heard.

But of course, it wasn't all great news and cuts are now starting to filter down locally, skimping on environment work (and staff). With the localism agenda coming about, the loss of knowledge and expertise in this area could be disastrous.

In the New Year, innovative ways the Government could fund the natural environment will be in the spotlight and we’ll be making sure that birds and wildlife are considered once again during the budget in March.

That’s why we need you to act now to ensure the wonderful wildlife of Christmas future isn’t poles apart from Christmas past and present. If you haven’t signed yet, see below for some top ways to support our campaign:

Top ways to get involved with Letter to the Future this Christmas

    2. Download the petition and pass it on at all you festive parties

The RSPB's Letter to the Future has now reached over 330,000 signatures -  brilliant news!

It's clear to see that after the spending cuts announcements back in October, many of you still want to see more investment in nature and our future generations to have an environment they can be proud of.

If you haven't already, sign the letter now - and ask your family, friends, cat, dog, fish...to sign too.

    Thanks for your support!

    Singing out for the future

I was thrilled this morning when I discovered that indie-folk band Stornoway added their voice to our Letter to the Future campaign last night.

Not only did they sign the letter, but they also wore RSPB pin badges whilst performing to a full-crowd at the popular music venue Waterfront in Norwich and sang one of their hit songs ‘Watching Birds’.

Personally, I’m unfamiliar with the band, but I’ve heard they are fantastic and one of the band members, Brian Briggs, is a life member of the RSPB!

Their supporting act - Foxes! - also signed the letter along with fans at the gig.

Reaching an audience like this just goes to show what wide appeal the campaign has and highlights how important it is to protect the environment for our future generations to enjoy and be proud of.

Add your voice now along with Stornoway and over 329,000 others who have already signed the RSPB’s Letter to the Future.
