Wow, at 5 o'clock this evening witnessed a flock of starlings swoop around for 7 or 8 minutes before decending about 50 to 100 at a time into a small hawthorn bush near where I live. My wife and I watched from the car as the bush was near the road on which we live. We roughly counted about 300.
We have walked past this bush many times and heard the noisy revellers, but had no idea that so many would be roosting in one small bush.
Hi RKD that must have been a brilliant sight
Yes doggie it certainly was. I have seen footage on TV of this type of starling behaviour as they flock in their thousands swooping around creating the most amazing patterns in the sky. but to witness it, albeit on a smaller scale, so close to home was brilliant.
If you haven't had a look on youtube before search for murmurations..there was a clip of one taken by a couple of girls from a canoe in Ireland..stunning
