  • Forum post: New to my Garden

Over the last couple of days we've had a new visitor with the usual blackbirds who visit to feed. I assume it is a blackbird, but if anyone knows otherwise, I'd love to know. He tends to be partial to peanut butter on toast!

  • Forum post: lack of wild bird sightings

We also live facing open farmed countryside . We thought that when moving here 5 years ago the area would provide us with views of many wild birds, but this has proved to be the opposite. In the city of Nottingham the gardens have wild birds, foxes and even squirrels. Here we don't see any sparrows...
  • Forum post: My first BGBW in my garden in Essex

Have seen greenfinches in the past and at times we have many collared doves sitting on top of the pergola over the pond (sometimes mating). Do at times get quite a lot of sparrows too but this was what I recorded today 29th January 2012 between 11.30am and 12.30pm Blackbirds 2 Starlings 12 Woodpigeon...

  • Forum post: Garden Bird Watch - Robin is in charge

The robin took charge of the new feeder and patrolled between feeders on 2 trees chasing away the blue tits and great tits. However when the long tailed tits arrived he did not chase them - are they too aggressive for him? I have a pheasant who also patrols the garden - another appeared last week but...
  • Forum post: Re: who's missing?

I have finished my hour only common birds in my garden. Sparrows seem to go for a break when I am counting they must be squabbling in someone elses bushes. Blackbirds are having a good show of numbers trying to claim territory. Bluetits are nervously pecking on the suet coconuts and leaving after a few...
  • Forum post: Re: Black Cap

I would just like to say a big thank you to all of you for your input on black caps and birdy chat in general. With reference to blackbirds being dive bombed, a sparrow hawk regularly attacks the bird feeders; but the black birds are just too quick for her. Not so for the unfortunate wood pigeons who...

This photo was taken during the harsh winter we have just received, the weather was way too bad go venturing out and about so i decided to set up my camera on a tripod and see what i could catch visiting my frozen pond. • Photo: Albino Blackbird - how unusual is this please?

Photo taken in Rufford Park, Notts April 2009, outside cafe, as can be seen from table legs etc, it was always on the move and difficult to photo. A Park gardener said it was a regular visitor, but when we visited last September it was not around. I was wandering just how unusual this colouring is in...
