New Birds

Had an op on my foot earlier this year so I haven't been able to do any work in the garden. It's a wilderness. Now I'm seeing birds I've never had in the garden before. Goldfinches and coal tits. OK, they're probably nothing much to most of you, but special for me. Maybe I should...

lack of wild bird sightings

We also live facing open farmed countryside . We thought that when moving here 5 years ago the area would provide us with views of many wild birds, but this has proved to be the opposite. In the city of Nottingham the gardens have wild birds, foxes and even squirrels. Here we don't see any sparrows...

Beautiful Birds

I rarely spend a whole hour looking at birds coming and going from my garden, but I have to say it was a peaceful pastime and well worth it. I'm lucky to have Goldfinches as regular visitors, and today there were 5 on the one Niger seed feeder. They are beautifully bright, colourful birds and I love...

Hi, I bought a nyger seed feeder on 26th Jan hung it up on the 27th and on the 29th I counted 10 Goldfinches already lining up to eat! I was astounded by how quickly the news carried that we had Nyger seeds amongst the Goldfinch community! Stunning little birds

My garden isn't at the back of my house, it is over a yard/drive and round a corner, so I have to actually be in it to count. What's more the garden is big so I can only see so much of it at anyone time, so when I sit further down the one end, the birds don't come in so much, as I put them...

hi steph. with reference to your lack of goldfinches, when we first put up a niger seed feeder, response was slow untill we put a sunflower seed feeder next to it possibly because a niger seed feeder has such small holes and it is hard to see its contents.once the finches knew the niger seeds were there...

Finches galore!!!

When bad weather, this feeder attracts siskins, redpolls and goldfinches in vast numbers. During my BGW, I counted 17 redpolls in one session! Although expensive, it has brought me endless pleasure. The tray on the bottom which catches seed also serves as a feeding station. Go on, invest and enjoy!

Goldfinch Swarm during RSPB Birdwatch

Goldfinches feeding on an evergreen during the RSPB Birdwatch in a Basingstoke Hampshire garden. When they up and left there could have been anywhere between 40 and 60. By quickly quartering the group and guessing, I think there were over 50; but who knows! They have popped in for the same meal over...
