    We had a lovely time...

We're receiving some lovely feedback from you all confirming you're enjoying another Big Schools' Birdwatch. Here are some kind words from a primary school teacher in Manchester...

'We had a lovely time yesterday.  We spotted birds in our school grounds and the children loved getting out in the fresh air and competing with one another to see who would spot a bird first.

Looking forward to next year's birdwatch!’

Please do leave a comment below telling us what your school most enjoys about the activity.

    It's here!

You might have seen Houghton Primary School and the RSPB on ITV Daybreak this morning taking part in Big Schools' Birdwatch.

We hope this will be one of thousands of school taking part in our 10th birthday celebrations over the coming fortnight.

You can watch Houghton Primary School in birdwatching action now.

And, although Big Schools' Birdwatch is now open, it's not too late to get involved. You’ll find all the information you need here.

Please do drop us a message telling us what you did and how you got on when you do your birdwatch...

It's that time of year again!

But this year, it’s even more special because it’ll be the Big Schools’ Birdwatch 10th birthday, and between 24 January and 4 February, we want schools and youth groups around the country to celebrate with us – not by blowing out candles and eating cake (although they can if they want to), but by staring out of the window!

Since its launch in 2002, the Big Schools’ Birdwatch has inspired nearly half a million children and teachers about the wildlife outside their classroom window.

With over 2,000 schools expected to take part, the RSPB’s Big Schools’ Birdwatch has helped to track bird populations in schools over the last decade.

More than 70 different species have been recorded in school grounds, ranging from starlings and house sparrows, to kestrels and even pheasants.

We’re also excited that after its success in 2010, Little Schools’ Birdwatch is back for the 5’s and under to take part in, while for Key Stage 3 students (11-14 year olds), 2011 sees our first Really Big Schools’ Birdwatch.

Unfortunately, we can’t provide you with a party bag and cake, but we can give you everything you need to take part in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch. Free activity packs are available containing resources to plan a fantastic birdwatch.

We want to make sure everyone’s invited, which is where you come in. So if you’re a teacher, a parent or grandparent why not ring 0300 456 8340 or visit www.rspb.org.uk/schoolswatch to get hold of a free Big Schools’ Birdwatch pack to give to a child you know to take into their school.

Taken part in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch before? Tell us what you liked about it.
