Welcome again to the RSPB Learning Community pages!
I hope you have had a great summer holiday and are suitably relaxed and rested for the start of the new school year. The summer has been kind to us here at the RSPB office in Sandy and has included some rare (and lots of common) sightings of wildlife.
One particular creature that has been in wild abundance recently is the ladybird. I saw one in the garden last weekend and in my enthusiasm to share it with my 18 month nephew, the ladybird was promptly chased with a curious chubby finger and darted into the nearest weed for refuge. Children’s fascination with wildlife and nature is fantastic to watch, and to be able to bring the two together is an amazing privilege everyone can share.
So, as we are all new to this community I thought I would ponder on those long, hazy, sometimes rainy and humid summer days for a little longer and ask if you saw any wildlife this summer? It might have been something exotic and exciting, or even the return of a garden bird to feed at your table. Whatever it is it would be great to hear about it, and to be able to get to know a bit about you.
We had an Osprey down at Wat Tyler Country Park in Basildon during August. It was a magnificent sight. We also had an adder crawl accross the courtyard earlier this week:-) Check out the pics on our facebook page http://tinyurl.com/3g33ybe
We saw a little baby grass snake on Friday at the lodge. Makes me think I should carry my camera around with me as you never know what you might see!
