  • Photo: Blue Tit arriving for supper

This little blue tit arrived at our bird feeder just before sunset while we were holidaying in West Sussex in late August. I liked the way he was 'peeping' from the tree
  • Photo: Comma Butterfly

Taken at Minsmere RSPB reserve in Sept 2010.
  • Photo: Common Blue Damselfly

This photo of a common blue damselfly on a buttercup was taken in Gloucester. I was walking in a field by the River Seven and was amazed at just how many of these guys there were. I do not have a macro lense so this was a very lucky shot.

Emerald damselfly (Lestes sponsa) taken in Berrygrove woods near Watford in August 2010.
  • Photo: European Shag

Taken at the Farne Islands in May 2008. This marvellous place is a must if you want to get close to seabirds! The shag is superficially like the cormorant but is smaller and slimmer and has a lovely purple and green sheen to the feathers.

The first "Fairy Toadstool" I've ever seen, taken in Laheema National Park, Estonia.
  • Photo: Gannet

  • Photo: Get off my land!

This Red deer took exception to me sitting on a trunk in his patch and came over to let me know I wasn't welcome - from about 6 feet away! Have to say i was a little nervous, but there was nowhere I could go without stepping out into the open so I just sat my ground. Luckily having voiced his opinion...
  • Photo: Golden Plover

This was taken on the beach just past Sizewell, on a stroll from Minsmere RSPB reserve. These are normally seen later in winter in large flocks in southern England, but are usually hard to approach. In summer they adopt their spectacular breeding plumage and head North to breed.
  • Photo: Great spotted Woodpecker

This one was taken from the hide at the Lodge, Sandy, RSPB headquarters. It was flying to and from the feeders while I was waiting to try to photograph crossbills coming to the pond. It was a bit further away than I'd have liked but I like the image anyway.
  • Photo: Heath Fritillary

This was taken at Hockley woods in Essex, one of their last UK strongholds. We were lucky on our visit and saw dozens on a lovely warm day.
  • Photo: Heron Dancing on Ice

I waited ages to get an action shot of this poor heron as he stood motionless on this frozen pond at Harefield Middlesex in December. Then suddenly this happened as he attempted to catch a fish through the ice!
  • Photo: I am the champion!

This Red deer was rutting in Richmon park back in October 2010. He was certainly the boss in that neck of the woods.
  • Photo: Inquisitive Crow

This crow was inquisitive of me when i spotted him alongside the river Windrush, Bourton on the Water in January
  • Photo: Jay

Taken at Maple lodge reserve, near Rickmansworth, Herts. This was taken from the hide in the entrance building. The jay landed in the trees some way off to check out the feeding station, but decided not to come closer.
  • Photo: little egret

little egret feeding by the side of the trackway leading out to RSPB Elmley
  • Photo: Little Grebe

A little Grebe, sometimes known as a Dab. Very shy birds so it took alot of patience and quietness to get this close!
  • Photo: nutty squirrel

this was taken in Danson Park in Bexleyheath, Kent. I was taking pictures when this squirrel jumped up and sat on the piece of wood and started eating and wasnt disturbed with me being close by. It was lovely to see.

  • Photo: Red Deer family Portrait

This was taken on a misty morning in October in Richmond park. The Red deer were in full rutt and this Stag had been involved in some serious action just a short while before, seeing off a rival. But then he returned to his family for some quality time.
