I visited some fields in Somerset reknowned for their abundance of butterflies and after a few hours photographing, I was rewarded with this great macro shot of a female Meadow Brown butterfly posing on a thistle.

This picture was taken mid-afternoon at Greylake RSPB Reserve on Somerset Levels. I was looking at the large number of starlings in a field, when they suddenly took to the air. I hadn't expected to be lucky enough to see this, never mind get a picture.
