Unfortunately once booked I started to hear that February could have the sting in the tail of the winter months.

The sky and with it the atmosphere was constantly changing with occasional glimpses of the sun then dark menacing clouds all mixing with the mist making the frosty landscape come alive.

The birdlife also started to perform with flocks of Geese appearing out of the mist, Lapwings wheeling acrobatically above our heads.

The Golden Plovers flew lower and the noise of their collective wing beats added a sound track to the spectacle.

We had now been joined on the track by keen early morning birders many, our guide told us, looking for an elusive Lesser White Fronted Goose a rarity amongst its numerous White Fronted companions.
