Mallachie has had her fill of Portugese fish and is off to Africa. I make it she stayed about 26 days at the reservoir (doesn't time fly) so she should be in tip-top shape for the journey ahead. It would be great if she could manage it as quickly and directly as Rothes did. My guess is that she will take a little longer and, probably, go a little further inland. Anyway, we'll know in the coming days - best of luck, girl!

Mallachie has made good time since Friday. Will need to wait until I get home to check GE to see exactly qwhere she is now.

Blog update! - But not a lot to report - We'll have to be patient and wait for Monday.

Sandy, many thanks for your input. I'm personally cheered just by seeing on GE how relatively closly she is matching up with big sister's flight plan now. And certainly do agree that I hope she is making a bee line for Guinea Bisseau now (did I spell that correctly?) Go girl go!

I am greatly relieved that both Rothes and Mallachie seem to have had a good migration. It would so nice to know how Garten is doing, but I guess we will just have to wait for her to be spotted and identified somewhere, hopefully safe and sound.

Cirrus : I am also very pleased that Mallachie seems to be following Rothes migration track and there is every possibily that they will winter in the same area. Lets hope Garten is there too.

Hi Kathy J: Just a note of caution - the last position we have for Mallachie is about 900 miles from where Rothes is, so her migration is far from over. I've no doubt that she will be OK but she is taking her time compared with Rothes.
As for Garten she could be anywhere by now. We won't know her fate until she hopefully returns to the UK one day. Personally. I console myself with the thought of that first sighting in 2-3 years time, wherever it may be. If and when it happens this site will go into meltdown with excitement!

Oh, sorry. I thought she was further on. I certainly do not want to tempt fate here. So, yes, she still has some flying to do over the sahara before she reaches the other side by the looks of it.
I also appreciate that we may not get any sightings of Garten until she returns to the UK, but it would just be a big relief if she was sighted before then. So much anticipation with these Ospreys.

Rothes has a new friend in the Bijagos - Talisman is now on the the small island to the south-west of Ilha das Galinhas, 34 kms from Rothes!!!

Oh, Sandy, what thrilling news ! About Rothes and Bijagos - I so long for Mallachie to make the same choice (and Garten :)) Cos if they did meet up I know they would know each other .

Well, thankfully Mallachie has now just about entered Senegal:
"Today (19th) she entered Senegal (just) - she was close to Belkindi at 11am this morning. She's pretty close to Reserve de Faune du Ferlo-Nord to her S and Reserve Sylvo-Pastorale des six Forages to her SW "

GE has updated.
Interestingly, Mallachie seems to be heading directly towards this place - time for a break, maybe?

Wonderful that Mallachie is so close to Rothes.
