Bee-eater - Menorca

My OH and I where lucky to see a lot of Bee-eaters arriving close to our chalet while we where on holiday this year.  They are one of the most colourful birds you could ever wish to see.  The vivid shade of blue stands out from a distance away. Their chitter chatter is unmistakable.

Bee-eaters love to be in large colonies and it is almost like they cannot be without their own kind.  Just to see then land on prominent perches is interesting to observe.  One lands, and moves to another Perch.  Another lands on the same perch, and so on.  It is although they are playing follow my leader with one another.

May time is the best time to see them in Menorca.  So if you ever get an opportunity to see them, their 'roosting' place is near Fornells, Menorca.

    Fantastic!

I've been lucky enough to see these superb birds in the Camargues in France some years ago (before I had a digital camera alas!)

Will make a note of the location in case I go to Menorca one day!
