Another picture taken in this year in Menorca, A couple of Yellow Legged Gulls where always nearby no matter where you went around the Island of Menorca. This picture was taken of one flying over some white washed buildings in the main town area of Fornells. These species of gulls are becoming a lot more humanised and have become unafraid of people. The locals are not too keen on them and now they are getting a bit of a repuation for being bin raiders. I also understand that 'Yellow Legged Gull' are quite 'rare' to the island. So it good that the species has a foothold to secure their species - that is important too.
We managed to get really close to them, and it was although they wanted you to feed them - that is not so good!! A family in our sailing group was unfortunate to have a Yellow Legged Gull take food taken off their table, (the table was sitting on the porch). They where very surprised by it all - so cheeky!!
So despite of the 'Yellow Legged Gull' being attractive to look at, they are clever at finding scraps of food, and are good at survival tactics. I am sure that they will around for a long time yet.
wow that is a great action shot
