You might be surprised to read that our work is far broader than nature reserves and Big Garden Birdwatch. Read more about what else we do.

... football!

My local team is Rushden and Diamonds and tomorrow we have an important match against our local rivals Kettering Town (the Poppies).

But your football team may have an ornithological nickname.

These are the ones I can think of, off the top of my head:

There must be lots of others - let me know.

And come on you Diamonds!

And tomorrow, win or lose, I'll let you know how many MPs have signed the EDM congratulating the RSPB on the number of signatures on our bird of prey pledge and calling for the law to be enforced.

  • It would be cruel to call Portsmouth the dodos.

  • Hi Mark,how about   Cardiff-Bluebirds

    Crystal Palace-Eagles

    Sheffield Wednesday-Owls

    Cheltenham-Robins

    Swindon-Robins

    Notts County-Magpies

    Lewes-Rooks

Different subject but how strange that of all the places on Mull to go the lone Waxwing chose Dave Sextons garden to visit but as he says it thought it had died and gone to heaven as I think it had Plums and Apples, perhaps even over ripe Bananas if it revisits, think I might sneak into his garden in September.

  • Torquay are also Gulls and Bradford are the Bantams. Apparently Forfar Athletic are known as the Loons, although I don't think their loons are bird-related....

If only Bristol City's robins had had an off day at the weekend!
