Guest blog from Gavin Thomas, Bowland Wader Project Officer.
A day later than last year, these little beauties were making their first uncertain steps towards the nearest wader scrape on Alston Wetland on the edge of Longridge yesterday afternoon.
More on Alston Wetland later, but for now, these two and their two siblings will have to negotiate our increasingly bizarre weather and a few predators for about forty days before they take to the wing. If one out of the four make it, that’s good as the science tells us that 0.8 chicks raised per breeding pair is enough to maintain the population. The Wader Project is doing everything it can to make sure the other 3.2 make it too.....
