Hi all. I live in West Sussex, am a Matrimonial Lawyer by profession and love nearly all wildlife (cannot quite cope with Spiders yet but I am getting better).  I started putting out birdfood in 2005.  I don't have a garden but outside my flat there is a bit of grass, a small car park and an apple tree.  After watching the birds outside feeding it led onto full blown birdwatching in Sussex and Kent.  The bird I had always wanted to see was a Peregrine Falcon.  My dream came true on 14th January 2007 at RSPB Pulborough Brooks.  As I walked to the viewing area known as the Hanger a gentleman asked if I had seen the Peregrine sitting in the tree to the left.  I could not believe it and dropped my camera in my haste to take a picture.  That Pergrine has been there each winter since and I have thousands of photo's.  I still cannot wait to see her (the centre staff think it is a female due to size, frequency of feeding and type of prey taken).  Wildlife is my way of escaping the stress of my job.  I am just about to branch out into the world of video rather than still pictures.

I have discovered that you do not need a garden to attract the birds. So far my garden list has 29 difference species which is great considering I live in Crawley.  This year I put up my first nest box and 7 Blue Tit's fledged.  They were even kind enough to do this at 7.20am so I saw them all fledge before I left for work.

Hi  Debbie

Just wanted to let you know your tip re spiders is working a treat!  We haven't seen a single spider since we put conkers  around the house, and we were getting some huge ones!  My husband had  to catch  them  (I won't let him kill them even though they terrify me)  and take them well away from the house before letting them go.

Hope you're keeping well,

thanks again,

Jean

hi debbie

i enjoy autumnwatch but could do with less of the stag rut as i find it distressing. how sad one died. i know it is naturbae. i have been to kenya on safari a few times but i made it clear that if a kill was about to take place i would be found on the floor of the wagon with my eyes shut and my fingers in my ears. i know it takes place and that is enough.

there is now snow on ben wyvis (our nearest munro) so the new bird table is out and we are enjoying watching the birds feeding and having a bath. OK there are no osps but our garden birds are still wonderful

Hello Debbie- thankyou so much for that!  There is a huge tree just outside my office - I shall go and collect a bagfull at lunchtime!  Silly question, though - do they have to be still in the shell or not?

Thanks,

Jean

Hello Debbie

Sounds like your holiday was super and you enjoyed yourself a whole lot.  I bet seeing the Peregrin was just the best thing ever.  I have only seen them on TV so far - so here is wishing.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures a whole lot.  I will have a look into the area that you have mentioned unless you have a link to share.  Great to keep an eye on a individual bird any day. {thumbs up}
