  • I saw a female harrier at Stoborough meadow on Saturday, very close sat on a post on the opposite side of the road and then in flight- Im sure it was a hen harrier as Ive seen them before, and Ive seen a male over the reed beds opposite Redcliffe previously but on the main RSPB pages it says they are only winter visiters to the area?

A friend of mine also said there had been marsh harriers in the area previously but I didnt think that was very likely.

    Can anyone enlighten me?

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

Hen Harriers are generally a winter visitor to the area, but it's not unknown for one to turn up around this time, indeed a collegue of mine spotted a male Hen Harrier on the reserve just a week ago. However it is much more likely to have been a Marsh Harrier if you were unsure as we seem to have some hanging around the area.

    Hope this helps.
