Taken on Coombe Heath on 22nd of March 11. At Arne it is so tempting to always look up, but looking down also throws some surprises :) This is why I choose this photo for the competition. This Beetle caught my eye because of the wonderful metallic hue produced when flying. It landed and I took some shots, not knowing at the time what it was. I went back to the visitor centre and lovely Rob ID'ed it for me, informed me it was one of Arne's seasonal highlights and the first spotted this year. This beetle then became another wonderful species of Wildlife I have learned about since becoming a member of the RSPB. On top of this, whilst looking at the Tiger Beetle, I spotted a Minotaur Beetle dragging some dung into it's den. I saw a Minotaur Beetle the other day, and now I know more about their habitat and what they do. So look down as well as up, you may be pleasantly surprised, if you like bugs of course :)
