Firecrest (Regulus ignicapillus) feeding in holly tree. RSPB Arne, Dorset, UK.
Unsurprisingly the UK's smallest bird feeds on something infinitesimally smaller still. In close-up it looks like insect larvae of some variety.
What lens are you using Dom?
a good one thats spots firecrests..:-)
Canon EF 100-400mm from a few feet away. 2nd-hand on ebay. Pricey but worth it. Cheap and fairly portable in comparison to the seriously big boys. Does the job. ;-)
Oh and cropped quite a lot.
Sigma 135-400mm for me..new from manufacturer..f4.5-5.6..need a F2.8..:-)
yikes Dom you seen the price of your new?...:-))
nealy 3 times the price of the sigma...:-)
Well that Peter is the joy of ebay. All Canon lenses seem to have gone through the roof after the earthquake / tsunami / nuclear meltdown.
