It's been a busy weekend here at the Glaslyn. No sooner had the first chick arrived a second popped out of its shell less than 24 hours later! Usually there are two full days between the eggs hatching. We were all worried however that almost three days later the third and final egg was very much intact.
Our fears were thankfully all in vain. Late last night we noticed a small hole in the remaining egg and by early this morning the feisty little chick had managed to escape his shell fully and by 8 o' clock was feeding with its siblings, wolfing down a fish breakfast as quick as he could!
A big thank you to staff, volunteers and all that have helped us get this far this year, let's hope that all three chicks survive and fledge this time, that would be a first for this Glaslyn pair in their fifth year of breeding here.
Hi Emyr,
Glad to hear that the third chick has arrived. We were a bit worried when we heard about the hole and no chick. But our fears were thrown out when it turned up.
Great pictures! .... How close did you have to be to take these?
hi, I don't need to be close at all, these are grabs that I take off the live images that we have using video editing software, hopefully I'll have some more to show in the next couple of days, Emyr
congratulations to all the staff and volunteers at Glaslyn on the safe arrival of all three baby osprey. What a wonderful photograph, I look forward to seeing many more. It's such a pity that the cameras have let you down this year. Come on local businesses, what a scoop to put up the money to install new cameras and encourage more visitors ( and income) to your beautiful part of Britain. I shall be following the fortunes of the chicks avidly over the coming weeks. Well done Emyr for the very interesting Blog.
The chick on the left looks just like someone I know!!
These "grabs off the live images", can we tune our telly's to get these, or are they "pay for veiw". I'm sure that many, like us here at Management House would rather live Osprays than any shopping channals!
Keep up the good work.
