Blacktoft photo opportunities - March

Blacktoft photo opportunities - March

Each month I thought I would highlight some of the photo opportunities available at Blacktoft Sands.  Please let me know if this is something you would like.  Also please add your thoughts as comments.

This month try and take a photo of a hare, some of our ducks (in full breeding plumage!) or some of our resident small birds as they sing from perches.

Hares - During march hares tend to be more obvious up at Ousefleet.  Try from the gate at ousefleet or from ousefleet hide.  Mornings tend to be best.

Ducks - We still have a wide variety of ducks on the reserve at the moment.  Some like the wigeon will soon disappear so this is your last chance for these ducks.  All are now in the full breeding plumage and many are displaying to each other such as the great-crested grebe down at singleton.  Ducks to try to photo could include:  tufted duck, pochard, mallard, wigoen, shoveler, teal, gadwall, little grebe, great-crested grebe, shelduck.

Resident small birds - many of our songbirds and other small birds are now singing and starting to build nests.  Take advantage of them singing on perches and leafless trees to take a photo of these wonderful birds.  Small birds to try to photo could include: tree sparrow, dunnock, blue tit, great tit, wren, reed bunting.

Please share your photos by adding them to our gallery or if you have really good ones then you might want to keep these to enter our Humber photo competition.

Coming in April.  Avocets, marsh harriers and warblers.
