After much of this week being stuck in the office due to the weather, I went down this afternoon for a look at the reserve.  Apart from being completely covered in snow including the car park - there was lots of action from some of our wildlife.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • Roe Deer - seen all over the place.
  • Many small birds including fieldfares and skylarks around the car park.
  • Barn owl - at least two hunting around the reserve this afternoon.  One went directly in front of the hides on a number of occassions today.
  • Marsh harriers - 15 in the air at once this afternoon come roost time.
  • Hen harriers - 3 of them.  The male is still around and two ring-tails.  These have been particularly active throughout the day hunting sometimes directly in front of the hide as seen by my photo of one disappearing along the ditch in front of singleton.

What a great way to end a winters day!

Please note that the marsh harrier events will be taking place this week on Wednesday 15th and Saturday 18th February in singleton hide between 3pm and 5pm.
