If it was easy to record the sound of vegetation growth, I would be spoilt for choice for this weeks audible bite from Blacktoft Sands, the flood banks and hedges seem to be greening up in leaps and bounds, butterflies and damselflies are on the wing and the birds continue to give a rousing chorus. ...

Fired a short burst whilst the whitethroat was stationary and to my surprise it took off whilst doing so. I was very pleased to have captured a good image of it in flight - a lovely way to round off our day at the Blacktoft Summer Open Day. Many thanks to all concerned for a well-organised event.

16 May 2012: Between Reception and First Hides. This bird was actively carrying nesting material - and it even managed to sing with a beak-full of feathers!

everyone was busy with the grasshopper warbler while at the back of them this whitethroat was feeling left out!

A few reed warblers have now returned to Blacktoft, joining the sedge warblers in the reedbed. Listen out also for whitethroat and it is probably the best time to listen out for grasshopper warbers as the start their amazing sound as soon as they arrive.
