Marsh Sandpiper - still at home at Blacktoft!
Michael Andrews
The marsh sandpiper heads the cast of waders currently present at Blacktoft. It has now been in this part of the Humber for 20 days! Today, like most of last week, singleton lagoon was the place to find this special bird. Other waders include almost 200 Black-tailed godwits, 14 spotted redshank, 65 dunlin...

A family of young water rails (adult plus 4 very small young) were seen by many along the edge of townend this afternoon. At a...

Reserve sizzles hot hot hot as Mexican Bandits appear!
Pete Short
The sizzling hot weather seems to be good for the birds at the moment! An Osprey flew high over on Friday as it did the week before and almost exactly at the same time! Maybe its going to the Golden Chippy (Shop) in Goole for last dinner time orders, I never knew ospreys were Catholic though? Waders...

Michael Andrews
Our two spoonbills are still here and are often seen preening and sleeping on singleton lagoon. Then visiting townend lagoon to feed offering excellent views of them sweeping those bills through the water - often they go round in circles after what they are after. Waders, Water rails and some wind
Michael Andrews
Waders With the wind over the last few days the waders have been in groups in sheltered spots around the reserve. It has turned calmer this afternoon and the waders have returned to feeding, sleeping or preening throughout the lagoons. Highlights include at least 14 spotted redshank hunting in groups...

Change in lagoon of the week
Michael Andrews
Top watching spot this week is no longer marshland. The lagoon that in my opinion is the best location for watching the birds at the moment looks a bit like this picture. Today the bulk of the 80 or so black-tailed godwits were present there along with up to 14 greenshank . It is also a great place...
