Art sketch showing the Solway as it is today. Get yourselves up here. Its quiet, the air is clean, its a haven for tired overworked people. You know you have always wanted to start birdwatching. Its really easy. Stacks of good books on the subject. You can either dabble or you can give meaning to the rest of your life, studying the subject in depth. Birding has everything: fresh air, walking, photography, painting and sketching birds. You can do it on your own or with companions, family and friends. Kids really like bird watching specially if you buy them a decent pair of binoculars. It gives them instant status! Stacks of organisations, natural history societies, not to mention our very own Royal Society for the Protection of Birds with Bird Reserves all round the country to visit. Give your leisure activity a real purpose. I joined when I was 12 and here I am at 75, still really enjoying birding.. No matter who or what you are you will always be welcome in the great family of ornithologists. We are a really friendly lot. Come on down.
